Special events at Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara:

    Presently there is all-day paritta chanting on the qualities of the Lord Budha at Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara. It started with the beginning of the rains (vas) and will end at the close of rains with a total of 100,000 chants on the qualities of the Lord Buddha. If you would like to get water, oil, etc blessed or would like to participate in the chanting please contact the Vihara (temple) on 9702 6275.

    There will be a full 24 hour special sil & meditation program in Sinhala commencing at 8AM on Saturday the 14th of August 2010 and ending at 8AM the following day, Sunday the 15th of August 2010. All are welcome.

The following new office bearers for the Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara committee have been appointed unanimously by show of hands at the Special General Meeting on Saturday the 24th of July 2010.

3) Joint Secretaries – Ms. Aruni De Silva & Mr. Palitha Wickremaratne
4) Treasurer – Mr. Varuna Weerasooriya

This is to confirm that all members who received notice of Special General Meeting (SGM) can attend the meeting scheduled for tomorrow 24th July 2010 at the Vihara at 5.30 p.m.

This message is sent to confirm that all members who received the notice are members according to the current rules of the Association and are within their right to attend the SGM. Therefore please attend tomorrow’s meeting to exercise your membership right.

Please note the two events for this Sunday the 25th of July:

    Monthly Youth Sil Program in English, conducted by the Vihara Maha-Sangha, including guided meditation and disucussions in English will be conducted from 9:00am - 2:00pm.

    Vas aradhanava (rains invitation), monthly suvusi & pahan pujava, offering of flowers and 250 lamps around the Bodhiya in remembrance of the salient qualities of past Samma Sambuddhas with chanting at 7PM. Feel free to bring flowers, incense sticks, fruit juices, etc. to participate. Pali chanting books are available in Sinhala and English script (see attached file). If you would like to sponsor the 250 lamps, please contact the temple.

The Vihara members have been invited to attend a multicultural event aimed at increasing understanding between different cultures on the 3rd of July at 7PM in Wantirna. There is room for people to attend this event which includes speeches from various cultures/religions as well as religious/cultural dance, song items, etc. It will also include a free vegetarian/no-vegetarian meal for all attendees.

    Due to the current situation at Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara the Poson youth sil program on Sunday the 27th of June has been cancelled until further notice. This cancellation has been decided upon by the dayakas (members) and the Maha-Sangha.
