minutes of the meeting held on 6 th jan. 2008
Ven. Wimalanada and Ven Lankananda presided the meeting.
others present were:
Poly, Kosala, Nayanakumara, Wasantha, Lal senaratna, Upul Suraweera, nimal,
Kanthi, Lasantha, Lakshman, Kamal and bandara.
1. Weeratunga has completed the plaster board erection and volunteered to
cover the ceiling as well. Temple purchased the timber boards with Atula's
help. There were heated arguments re. completing the ceiling using
professional builders vs. volunteers. Poly cannot advise to layman as that
would affect his licence. He only can specify the finish and the outcome
expected. It was decided to finish the work on volunteer basis as we cannot
afford to contract it out. The temple will accept any shortcomings or legal
issues arising out of this decision.
2. Many dayakas are not happy with the communication skills of our chief
incumbent. They point out that our monks are not SHARP enough to MAKE
dayakas WANT to come to the temple. The lack of English knowledge is ALSO a
reason for losing the young generation.
Lakshman pointed out that the so called officials of the temple also shold play a positive role to attract Dayakas.
During his recent visit Kosala has requested to Ven Anunayaka Ananda to
release Talpawila Kusalaghana ( young monk with excellent English),
Diyatalawe piyadassi ( young monk whose delivery is very similar to our late
Ven. Soma).Arawwala sudhamma another young monk with good communication
skills. Ven. Ananda declined to release any of these monks and in fact
wanted us to let Ven Lankananda return to SL as soon as possible. Kosala has
privately invited Rajawelle Subhuti, who pointed out that if he leaves the
Janavijaya padanama of our Ven. Soma will collapse. Then he invited Talalle
Chandakitti of Narada centre who has written English books to visit our
temple during the Vas season . This monk consulted the chief incumbent of
the Washington temple and refused to come to Australia. Based on these facts
Kosala pointed out that our dayaks will have to be satisfied with our
incumbent monks. At this point Poly offered to educate ven Lankananda the
English language at his cost (Earlier he sponsored ven. Horowpathane
santhindriya) and extend the visa of Ven Lankananda. All present agreed with
this proposal.
3.The opening ceremony is due 29th of March 2008. By 14th of March building should be completed. Every one should volunteer to spare their time to work in this task and finish the building as soon as possible.
